JOB DESCRIPTION: ANIMAL CARE TECHNICIAN$15.5030 - $19.2055
hourly, generous benefit package, including 14% agency contribution

direct supervision of the Facility Supervisor, Lead Animal Care
Technician and Senior Animal Care Technician, cares for the animals
that come into SEAACA Animal Care Center and maintains the
facility. Working hours and days off may be rotated. Hours may be
for various durations, up to 12 hours a day, however, normally do
not exceed eighty (80) hours in any two week period and include
weekends and holidays.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:Provides food and water
for domestic, exotic and wild animals at shelter.Cleans and
disinfects animal enclosures (some outside of the building) and
feed bowls.Impounds animals into animal care center and releases
animals to owners and new adopters.Humanely euthanizes
animals.Provides quality customer service.Maintains
facility.Computer data entry, record keeping, and scanning animals
for microchips.Observes animals for signs of illness or injury and
reports these to Veterinary Division.Other work as assigned.MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS / EXAMINATIONS:Must possess a high school diploma
from accredited high school or General Equivalency Degree.
(GED)California high School Proficiency Exam Certificate
(CHSPE).Successful completion of a physical examination, drug
screening, and Live Scan background check.Ability to pass a
specified written test with a minimum score of 70%.Must pass a
pre-employment physical examination.Demonstrates a competent work
history and attendance record in good standing.Minimum 18 years of
age.DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Animal breeds and knowledge of
behavior traits.Proper methods of safely handling and restraining a
wide variety of animals.Animal nutritional needs.Symptoms of common
diseases of dogs and cats.PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS:Ability to lift 50 pounds as demonstrated by a challenge
test.Extensive direct handling, carrying and restraining of
animals, both large and small and carrying of supplies and
equipment.Extensive stooping, bending and carrying.Communicate
effectively with residents, staff and city contacts in person and
by telephone.Manual dexterity sufficient to prepare handwritten
records and for computer data entry.Must be able to tolerate loud
animal noises and objectionable odors.Endurance sufficient for
standing and walking during entire duty shift.Occasional running to
apprehend loose animals evading capture.PHYSICAL

environment. Must be able to work around animal fur, dangerous and
aggressive animals. Incumbents are exposed to and/or in contact
with chemicals used to perform humane euthanasia.OTHER

or without notice.PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:Must be able to regularly
lift, carry, restrain and capture animals between 60-70 pounds,
occasionally up to 100 pounds.On a continuous basis, sit at a desk
in front of a computer screen; intermittently twist to reach
equipment or supplies surrounding desk; perform simple grasping and
fine manipulation; use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily
basis; walking, bending, stooping and reaching to access files and
materials; and intermittently lift or carry boxes of various
weights.Specific vision abilities required by this job include
close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception
and ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here
are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this
