Position Description
An Electronics Communications Technician (ECT) maintains, repairs,
tests, configures, and installs fixed, mobile, and portable radio
communications and related equipment. ECTs will possess knowledge
of the protocols, procedures, techniques, and equipment used to
maintain, repair, test, configure, and install fixed, mobile, and
portable radio communications and related equipment. Individual
assignments may have specialized assignments within functional
areas such as fixed and mobile two-way public safety radio;
microwave transmission; command and control; and helicopter and
light aircraft communications.
Skills Required
ECTs will frequently lift tools, supplies, and equipment weighing
10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Equipment
installation, repair and replacement duties require ECTs to
regularly use 6-foot and taller ladders, and perform tasks that
require bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
Physical dexterity, color perception, and visual acuity are
required for working with color-coded wires and cables.
Skills Preferred
Experience Required
This classification requires a minimum of four (4) years of
experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of FM radio
communications transmitting and receiving equipment. At least one
(1) year of that experience must have been at the journey
level.
Experience Preferred
Experience installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing
security cameras, and configuring client workstations related to
video surveillance systems. Experience monitoring the operation of
security equipment for malfunctions or other system issues.
Experience maintaining storage device for archiving video footage.
Knowledge downloading footage to external drives to provide to
customers, as needed. Experience in installing firmware to cameras
and servers when needed for optimal system performance. Experience
in maintaining security logs of incident and provide to client for
review. Experience installing, maintaining, and operating
audio-visual systems. Experience of procedures, techniques and
equipment used to provide onsite press conferences, meetings, and
special event request that include the operation of audio mixers,
press box for media connections and the operation of portable
public address systems (PA). Experience and ability to lift tolls
and equipment weighing 10-25 pounds. Duties will require incumbent
to use a 6 foot ladder and taller, and perform task that require
bending, stooping, reaching. Experience communicating/interacting
with customers at various levels regarding operational problems,
repair, modification, and installation of audio systems and related
equipment. Keeps time, material, and service records.
Education Required
This classification requires an associate degree in electronics or
military training in electronics, a General Radiotelephone Operator
License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and a
California Class C Drivers License. Additional qualifying
experience may be substituted for the required education on a
year-for-year basis.
Education Preferred
Additional Information
Physical dexterity, color perception, and visuals acuity are
required for working with color-coded wiring and cables.
