Lead Strategic Designer (The Boston Consulting Group, Inc. -
Manhattan Beach, California): Maintain full ownership of the
strategic design work stream within client management to create
human-centered user experiences, digital products, and services
through collaborative problem solving and management of a
multidisciplinary team. Specific duties include: plan, manage, and
conduct ethnographic research and contextual design investigations
to understand customer behaviors, pain points, needs and
aspirations; directly manage the evaluation, development and growth
of individual contributors; manage the planning and execution of
internal cohort initiatives in order to help the cohort grow from a
culture, learning, content perspective; lead business development
effort from start to finish which includes planning and executing
onsite visits, and the planning and scoping of innovation and
incubation projects to ensure proper execution; contribute to the
development of thought leadership across a range of emerging
business, technology and design topics; identify insights from
customer research and market analysis; apply divergent design
thinking techniques for the conceptual development of products,
services and/or physical connected form-factors; converge
innovative ideas to a set of digital and tangible products,
services and/or physical connected form-factors in partnership with
venture architects, product managers and engineering; communicate
design ideas using techniques, including product concepts, service
models, customer journeys, industrial designs, system maps and
infographics; and partner with venture architects, product managers
and growth architects to ensure that new ventures and business
builds are set up to deliver value in line with design intent.
Master's degree in Strategic Design, Industrial Design, Interaction
Design, Architecture or related field (willing to accept foreign
education equivalent) plus four (4) years of experience performing
human-centered design including research, generative ideation, and
concept development, which must include at least two (2) years of
experience launching new business, products and services to market.
Alternatively, will accept a Bachelor's degree in Strategic Design,
Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Architecture (willing to
accept foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of
experience in performing human- centered design including research,
generative ideation, and concept development, which must include at
least two (2) years of experience launching new business, products
and services to market. Specific skills/other requirements
(quantitative experience requirements not applicable to this
section) - must possess the following: (i) leading and performing
qualitative research, including research planning for ethnography
and expert and proposition testing and synthesizing qualitative
research to identify clear and actionable insights for strategy and
concept development; (ii) employing collaborative design techniques
to drive multidisciplinary teams and clients through design
thinking activities, from objective setting to designing proper
stimuli for effective ideation; (iii) developing brand vision,
feature definition, product journey, and service blueprint; (iv)
engaging in visual storytelling by directing and creating visual
assets and aids to communicate customer journey maps and
presentations with proper content fidelity; (v) defining scope for
quantitative research and completing statistically viable
quantitative studies; (vi) driving towards and developing
opportunity frameworks including ecosystem maps, value chain maps,
frictions maps, user archetypes and personas to support concept
development; (vii) performing digital product prototyping and
testing; and (viii) developing future visioning methods and
applying them to multiple industries. Domestic/international travel
(up to 50%) required based on company/client need. Multiple
