industry today! GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: To perform machining tasks as
directed by their supervisor utilizing the CNC Vertical Milling
Center (main responsibility), Bridgeport Mill, Engine Lathe and CNC
Lathe as well as other Machine Shop support equipment (i.e.
grinder, belt sander, cold saw, etc.). ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The
duties and responsibilities listed below apply to all levels of CNC
Machinists. Each level of CNC Machinist has additional duties and
responsibilities listed. /n - Updates set-up and tooling sheets as
required, maintaining the VMC logbook for shift turnover,
documenting travelers and Discrepant Materials Report (DMR). /n -
Supports and exhibits the focus of zero defects as well as
right-the-first-time attitude. /n - Inspects work utilizing basic
inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gage, etc.). /n
- Provides suggestions or advice to maximize the efficiency of
Machine Shop. /n - Maintains a clean work area and ensures strict
adherence to the 5S Standards. /n - Accurately adjusts machine
settings to complete tasks according to specifications. /n - Uses
various machine shop support equipment including Saws, Belt
Sanders, Grinders, Overhead Cranes and Drill Press. /n - Follows
FOD (foreign object prevention) practices. /n - Complies with
established safety directives. /n - Complies with established QMS
procedures. /n - Other duties may be assigned. /n /n CNC Machinist
I: - Works under direct supervision. /n CNC Machinist II: /n -
Works under general supervision. /n - Oversees operators and
provides setup support. /n - Responsible for generating process
improvements. /n /n CNC Machinist III: /n - Works very
independently under minimal supervision. /n - Responsible for
training lower-level machinists. /n - Responsible for generating
process improvements. /n - Responsible for machining production
"MS" Tooling. /n /n SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None. Compensation:
$25.00 - $42.00 Hourly KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Required:
Each successive level of CNC Machinist builds on the identified
knowledge, skills and abilities listed for the previous level(s)
CNC Machinists. /n - Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential
information as required by government standards. /n - Ability to
interact effectively with peers and supervisors. /n - Ability to
interact appropriately with the public when necessary. /n - Ability
to adhere to workplace rules. /n /n CNC Machinist I: /n - Knowledge
of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures involving CNC
machines. /n - Knowledge of cutters and effective use of cutters
for maximum efficiency. /n - Familiarity with lean manufacturing,
and continuous improvement techniques beneficial. /n - Ability to
save/move (familiarity with PC a must) various programs on an "as
needed" basis. /n - Knowledge of the HAAS controllers a plus. /n -
Ability to read and interpret drawings. /n - Must be able to
demonstrate accurate basic math skills. /n - Ability to comprehend
geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. /n /n CNC Machinist II: /n
- Must be able to interpret and work from industry specifications.
/n - Ability to edit and save g-code /n - Ability to calculate
feeds and speeds /n - Ability to mentor level I CNC Machinists /n
/n CNC Machinist III: /n - Ability to train and mentor level I and
II CNC Machinists. /n - Must understand the fundamentals of
programming and design to communicate with ME's and Programmers /n
- Ability to machine various metals such as Aluminum, Stainless
Steel, Carbon Steel, Brass and Inconel. /n /n EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE: Required: Each successive level of CNC Machinist builds
on the identified education and experience listed for the previous
level(s) CNC Machinists. CNC Machinist I: /n - Requires high school
education or equivalent. /n - 2-3 years of hands-on experience in a
CNC Machine Shop. /n - Typical qualifications for this level
include a basic level of experience with: /n - Math - solid
understanding of fractions and decimals. /n - Documentation /n -
Materials Knowledge /n - Tooling/Molds /n - Equipment /n - Process
/n - Quality /n - Safety /n /n /n - May be required to obtain and
maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level
(requires U.S. Citizenship). /n /n CNC Machinist II: /n - 5 years
hands-on experience in a CNC Machine Shop. /n - Typical
qualifications for this level include an intermediate level of
experience with: /n - Math - functional understanding and practical
application of trigonometry /n - Documentation /n - Materials
Knowledge /n - Tooling/Molds /n - Equipment /n - Process /n -
Quality /n - Safety /n /n /n /n CNC Machinist III: /n - 8 years
hands-on experience in composite manufacturing CNC Machine Shop. /n
- Proven experience handling and machining various composite
materials. /n - Proven experience handling and machining various
honeycomb metal bond assemblies. /n - Typical qualifications for
this level include an advanced level of experience with: /n - Math
- functional to advanced understanding and practical application of
trigonometry /n - Documentation /n - Materials Knowledge /n -
Tooling/Molds /n - Equipment /n - Process /n - Quality /n - Safety
/n /n /n /n Preferred, ALL: - Experience with aircraft machined
parts a definite plus. /n WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
/n - Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time. /n -
Standing, walking, bending, reaching and working from slightly
elevated surface. /n - Use of hand tools. /n - Employee may
generate, handle, manage, or work around hazardous materials and
hazardous wastes. /n - May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in
accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines. /n /n
